Meet the New Owners

With over 25 years of experience in the tech industry, Dave Winterbourne brings a unique blend of engineering leadership and problem-solving to his new venture. After earning both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Geology from the Colorado School of Mines—where he conducted graduate research on a gold deposit in Mexico—Dave transitioned into software engineering and eventually spent a decade leading teams of engineers. His focus on efficiency, process improvement, and people development has prepared him well for business ownership.

While the move from software to sewers may seem unexpected, Dave sees it differently. With his experience automating systems, managing teams, and building trust through strong leadership, he’s ready to bring those skills into the trades. He believes that no matter the industry, success always comes down to people—and treating employees and customers with fairness, respect, and clarity.

Dave was introduced to Zoom Drain through a former colleague turned franchise consultant. After exploring several opportunities, Zoom Drain stood out—not just for its recession-resistant business model, but for its strong organizational support and clear path to growth.

He was particularly drawn to the essential nature of the work. Clean, functioning drains and sewers are a non-negotiable need in homes and businesses, regardless of economic conditions, global pandemics, or technological disruption. Local Roots and Community Pride

Though originally from Colorado, Dave has called Arizona home since 2000. After starting out in Tucson, he and Kristy moved to the Phoenix East Valley in 2012 to raise their family close to Kristy’s relatives. Like many residents in the region, the Winterbournes are proud transplants who’ve built their lives around family, community, and the sunny desert lifestyle.

They’ve grown to love the region’s strong values and supportive culture. Dave especially appreciates how much people in the East Valley prioritize family and togetherness—something he’s experienced firsthand through his children’s schools, friendships, and local activities.

What’s Next for Zoom Drain Arizona East Valley

Zoom Drain Arizona East Valley is expected to launch with a small but mighty team, with plans to expand steadily over the coming years. Within three to five years, Dave hopes to scale up to five trucks, five technicians, and multiple apprentices, along with the necessary support staff to keep operations running smoothly.

Looking further ahead, the goal is to serve all of Phoenix’s East Valley and possibly expand south into Tucson. With a clear long-term vision, strong local ties, and an experienced team behind them, the Winterbournes are ready to grow Zoom Drain into a trusted name throughout Arizona.
