Nine Signs You Have a Drain Emergency
Not every slow drain is a crisis, but these situations require immediate professional attention. If you’re seeing any of the following, call us now.
- Sewage Backups: Wastewater backing up into showers, tubs, sinks, or toilets is a health hazard. Sewage contains bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens that pose a serious risk, so it shouldn’t wait.
- Multiple Drains Clogged at Once: Simultaneous backups across multiple fixtures typically signal a main sewer line blockage, not an isolated clog in a single pipe.
- Overflowing Fixtures: Sinks or toilets that won’t stop overflowing can cause rapid water damage to floors, walls, and subfloor materials.
- Persistent Sewage Odors: A strong, lingering sewage smell from drains often points to a serious blockage or a broken section of pipe in the line.
- Sudden, Total Blockage: Water that has stopped draining completely throughout the home requires immediate professional attention, not another bottle of chemical cleaner.
- Gurgling Drains or Pipes: Unusual gurgling sounds when running water or flushing the toilet can indicate a worsening blockage in the main line.
- Flooded Basements or Standing Water: Water pooling in a basement or yard can point to a main line failure and lead to structural damage and mold growth.
- Recurring or Stubborn Clogs: When plungers and store-bought drain cleaners stop working, continuing to wait risks permanent pipe damage, especially in older cast-iron systems.
- Critical Business Disruptions: For restaurants, hotels, and commercial properties, a drain emergency can halt operations and cost significant revenue with every hour of delay.
Older homes throughout Springfield, Drexel Hill, Chester, and the broader Delaware County area frequently have cast-iron drain stacks and aging sewer laterals that are vulnerable to root intrusion and pipe joint stress. These systems need drain and sewer professionals who understand local conditions and infrastructure.

This is the third time we have used Zoom Drain to resolve a clogged pipe. Angel arrived during the scheduled time and explained everything before starting. We are happy to have working plumbing again before the holiday weekend.Kevin Norfleet
I couldn't be happier with MJ or his service. I was told by a different service that the sewer pipe was broken in the yard after a few hours of work and it would require digging up the yard to fix/replace it... very costly. Wanting a second opinion/confirmation, I called Zoom and a few hours later MJ arrived. I told him what was going on, what work had been done and what I had been told. He listened, asked a few questions and told me the clog was probably after the trap under the street and not a broken pipe. About 45 minutes later, after some camera work and high-pressure jet cleaning, the clog was gone and pipes clear at extremely significantly less cost than digging up the yard. MJ was very professional, listened, explained everything clearly and obviously knew what he was doing. Will immediately contact Zoom again should the need arise with confidence the job will get done.John H
